Reduce My Energy Bill
Everybody asks "how can I reduce my utility bill?". Heating, AC, lighting and appliances - they all cost money to run, money that could be used elsewhere.
After the mortgage and the payment on the car, the household utility bill is probably the largest spend for most families. Fortunately it's an area where you have a lot more control than you might imagine. It's certainly not a discretionary spend - but reducing your energy usage and lowering your bill is definitely achievable.
This short book details simple methods, which are low cost and quick to implement, that will make a significant difference in your monthly utility bill. All of the steps are very simple and can be put in place quickly and without the use of any special tools. Neither will you need any particular aptitude as a home handyman.
It's well worth having a look at this common sense approach to energy bill reduction. You could see a difference in your next bill - but only if you act now.

Using Less Energy And Saving Money Thanks To Modern Technology
The monthly utility bill will, for most families, be one of their largest budget items. Any way to cut this down to size would, for a typical family, be most welcome.
Thankfully, there are plenty of different ways by which this can be achieved. Some of these involve making use of modern technology to reduce your energy usage. Many of them are simple, inexpensive and very effective. The majority of them will produce an almost immediate improvement in the size of your bill.
A common sense approach to reducing the amount of electricity that you use each month is simply to turn off any devices that are not being used. Common sense is a commodity that can be in rare supply at times - and many modern electrical gadgets are rarely, if ever, turned off. Instead of being properly turned off, a lot of modern gadgets enter “standby mode” instead. As well as devices on standby, charging devices - such as those used for notebook computers, cell phones, and various other portable electronic devices - continue to draw power when they are left plugged in - even when they are not actually charging anything.
As much as 10% of a typical family home's electricity can be used up in supplying devices which are not actually being used but are sitting "on standby". Turn these devices fully off and watch your energy usage, and your bill, reduce. Given the large number of gadgets and gizmos in the average family home these days, it might be difficult to keep track of what's on standby, what's in use and what is switched off. If you struggle, get yourself some special power adapters which can detect when a device has entered standby mode and then kill the supply to it.
This could save you quite a bit of money. You might find that it also prolongs the lifespan of some of your electrical devices.
Another way to use modern technology to your advantage when trying to get your utility bill down is to fit low energy light bulbs throughout your house. Traditional light bulbs are not very energy efficient at all. As little as 10% of the energy supplied is used to produce light. The other 90% is wasted as heat.
Modern energy efficient light bulbs use less than 25% of the energy of conventional light bulbs for the same level of illumination. They also have a much longer life - so as well as saving you money, you won’t need to get your step ladder out to change light bulbs anything like as often.
As a final example of how modern technology can help you to reduce your energy bills, consider the latest low temperature cleaning agents and detergents now available on the market. These allow you to run your washing machine and dishwasher on a lower temperature setting.
Washing machines and dishwashers tend to be two of the highest energy consumers in the average family home. Operating these devices at 30 degrees could save as much as 40% of the energy used - and that should make a very positive difference to your monthly bill.

No Hard Sell With UWDC
One of the things that I enjoy about being a distributor (affiliate) for Telecom Plus, the company that runs the Utility Warehouse Discount Club, is the fact that there's no hard sell with their products and services. Due to the nature of the services that they provide, you don't have to persuade people to buy something that they may, or may not, want.
Telecom Plus offer telephone services, both landline and mobile, internet services, gas and electricity. Most people already have some, if not all, of these - and consider them to be essential services.
All that you need to do is to show your prospective clients how they can save money (in some cases a lot of money) on the services that they already have. It's still selling, but it's very definitely a soft sell.
For many people, that can make the difference between success and failure in their home business. It's unsurprising that many people don't like to sell - but what is surprising, in my opinion at least, is the fact that a high percentage of sales averse individuals seem to think that they can run an online business without making sales.
The fact is that an internet business is just like any other - it requires sales to thrive and survive. There's nothing magical about doing business online - no sales means no viable business.
There are a variety of means to make the sales process easier. You can let your website do a lot (but not all) of the selling for you if you like. You can use autoresponders to build a relationship with your customers if you like. However, selling is required to some extent.
Persuading someone to switch energy supplier, especially if they can save money as a result, is probably going to be a good deal easier than persuading them that they need another get rich quick ebook.

Overcoming Objections - Free Is Not The Same As Impartial
USwitch - An Unbiased Reference?
Every now and again someone who has been looking at changing to T+ tells me that they went onto Uswitch - or one of the other comparison sites - and that they couldn't find T+ there. Obviously they want to know why this is.
I usually explain this by pointing out that they weren't charged a fee for this comparison, that the website owners have to make their money somehow and that the way they do this is by getting a commission fee from the energy company whenever they change their supplier.
I politely point out that, despite the popular perception, most of the comparison services available cannot be described as unbiased. Yes they are free but, since they are gaining commission whenever someone switches, they can hardly be considered to be impartial.
Because I've been involved in telephony and energy for over 25 years now, most people will accept my reasoning here. If they still seem a little doubtful I suggest that they test my logic by entering Telecom plus as their current supplier and seeing if the comparison website can find anyone cheaper. That usually does the trick.
However, now it's even easier as The Telegraph have published a nice article which not only blows away the "independent" perception of the comparison sites but specifically names T+ as the most likely cheapest source for standard users - the majority of your potential customers in other words.
If you haven't already seen this then the link is below. The next time somebody plays the USwitch card you'll know where to send them.

Traffic Exchanges
If any of you are using traffic exchanges for advertising on the internet, I've put a new page on one of my websites which advises on how to do this effectively. You can see it here:

Summer's Over - Time To Get Busy!
Summer's Over
That's it guys - it's September and summer's over. The kids are either back at school, or just about to go back, and everyone is settling down secure in the knowledge that their tan will be gone long before their credit card is paid off. The only item of unfinished business is beating the Australians at cricket - then we can get our winter woolies out.
On the plus side - and it's a big plus - this is a time of year when business, after a few quiet weeks, traditionally picks up - with a vengeance. So think about making a bit of extra effort to get a few more customers in the next couple of months.
Dates and Venues For COE4 - Business Training
Just in case you haven't seen this already, here's a list of upcoming dates and venues for COE4. It only costs £10 and you'll get a pack of marketing materials worth well over that. This could really make a difference to your business - I recommend you attend as soon as you can.

Getting Distributors
The other "nice" thing about this time of year is that a lot of people will be going back to work having had a couple of weeks of freedom. It's an event which can really make them think about studying their alternatives - so you should be able to get a few interested prospects for distributor positions. Remember - if you don't ask you don't get.
That's all folks. If you're lucky enough to have a few days holiday left - enjoy!

Hamish

- Get referals. If you've already asked then ask again and get some more.
- Do you have any energy only customers? Ask them if they want to save on their phone, mobile, internet also. They're already sold on the UWDC so you'll be pushing on an open door.
- What about businesses? Have you been on the training course yet? Businesses are always keen to save money and, because they tend to have a higher usage, they can give you a really nice boost to your CVC each month.

Business Club Training
Business Club
I attended the business club training (COE4) in Edinburgh yesterday. Rhod Grub and Chris Weir were the trainers and they were very good. I certainly learned a few things and, because business people can be a bit more critical, it's important to lean the correct techniques before you dive in and start collecting customers.
There's no doubt that this is a huge opportunity for us all to expand into a new, and very lucrative, market - but there are one or two pitfalls to watch out for which don't exist in the residential market. These were explained very clearly during the training and it's well worth attending if you haven't managed to do so already.
The course costs £10 and lasts for about 3 to 3.5 hours - depending upon the number of questions. You get £10 worth of marketing materials specific to the business club, and these brochures really are very good. They exceeded my expectations and I'm sure the punters will be suitably impressed.
It was interesting for me to note that there were some people who had travelled to Edinburgh from as far afield as York. It seems that the course is in extremely high demand - hardly surprising when you think about the possible increase in your commission each month. So get your name down for a course near you as soon as you can, otherwise you might miss out.
Congratulations
The skies of Britain seem to be crammed full of happy flying piggies these days. Jonathan Mead & Natasha Bellingham recently made it into the flying club by collecting their 12th customer. Well done both of you.

Business Club
Business Club
I'm delighted to see that the new business club has been launched. It should give a big boost toyour earnings. Not only do you have a new market segment to target but the average spend should be higher - more commission for you.
Get yourself booked onto the training course as soon as you can, otherwise you'll miss out. I'm booked onto the Edinburgh training a week on Monday - I'll let you know what it's like.
Autoresponder Messages
I found out that some of my autoresponder messages had been reformatted due to a change in my autoresponder host's software (GetResponse). This made them difficult to read and I felt that my prospects might not have got the message I was trying to get across.
Anyway - I put up a site which has all the messages collected in one area. Some people ask me for the facility to read all the messages at once anyway - so I felt that this was a good idea. You can see the site at the link below:
http://www.messages.selfstarters.co.uk/
I'm directing the prospects to this site with a "P.S." at the end of message three. I'm also making anyone who asks for more information aware of the site.
If you're using an autoresponder to recruit - especially if it's GetResponse - it's worth checking your messages from time to time.
If you haven't got a clue what I'm talking about then have a look at the recruiting method I use. It's very successful and you can find details here:
